When I am judged for being abused, I feel less human and I don’t want to listen to what you have to tell me.

When abused, I lived in shame. It’s a lifestyle. And how abuse continues to happen.

When I was coming out of the abusive relationship, I had spiritual authority figures tell me what to do and what decisions I should make. This only increased the shame that I lived with.

Take The Secret Out

Day 4-Domestic Violence Awareness Month #pray4dvfreedom

My hope in talking and writing about abuse is to bring what happened in the safety of secrecy out into the light.

If we remove the secret that abuse IS happening inside “Christian” marriages by talking about it then victims can begin to heal from the shame and abusers may choose to repent.

I can’t describe the feeling of wanting everyone to know the truth yet at the same time not wanting anyone to know.

It’s a complex quandary that each victim faces. And it’s their story. It’s the victim’s decision to tell and if it is safe to tell.

Courtroom Battle

Day 2-Domestic Violence Awareness Month #pray4dvfreedom

Proverbs 29:9 says “If a wise person goes to court with a fool, the fool rages and scoffs, and there is no peace.” (NIV)

All I can say is, this is so true.

Being in court with my abuser was one of the hardest things I ever had to do.

But I told the truth.

There was no peace in the courtroom that day. It was a no-win scenario.

Only precious freedom that immediately followed.
